Exist Trace intervju

exist+trace is a Japanese visual-kei band that consist entirely of female members; they’ve been rocking out together since June 2003 at the heart of Tokyo, Japan. They have released four singles, four EP’s and a full length album. Their mini album Ambivalent Symphony includes a DVD which showcases two of their PVs, “Vanguard” & “Resonance”, which I strongly suggest you check out. After this interview they gave me more inspiration to continue in my field that’s dominated by men; if they can do it why not me. Even though they are females, it’s not stopping them from showing their power and strength; from reaching their goals. I’m sure their wish will come true of traveling and showing the world what they can do.
MadHatter: What were your thoughts when you were invited to V-Rock?
Jyou: Amazed and excited that we were invited to such a event. It’s very rare. It’s even rarer still because we are female visual artists.
MadHatter: Would you consider coming again?
Jyou: yes, we would like to perform again at the next one and yet… be on the bigger stage!
Miko: All of us would like to go to food court and try some food, we haven’t yet.
MadHatter: Your performance was very exhilarating! Do you feel you gave it your all?
Jyou: Yes! We were very satisfied...we used all our power and strength, and the fans gave it right back to us.”
MadHatter: Yes you did and we did! We would love to see you in America. If a 2nd J-Rock Revolution is scheduled would you consider coming to the event in America?
Mally: (All members shake head yes) We would love to be at the JRR2.
MadHatter: Before going out on stage what do you do to prepare yourself?
Mally: We like to give each other high-fives before to pep ourselves up. (Mally & Omi demonstrate with high-fives)
MadHatter: What are some of the things you like to do on stage to get the crowed pumped-up?
Omi: I like to motion with my hands at a fan to - how do you say in English: “bring-it-on”.
Jyou: I stare and wave them on; it’s my way to taunt the crowd. (members all nod in agreement)
MadHatter: You released your new mini album, what makes this album different from your past releases?
Jyou: We were able to do more things with this album than before. We thought about it on a bigger scale this time.
Miko: We also wanted to give our fans something they haven’t heard before. It’s easy to just put out an album like the previous one because you have everything worked out, but we wanted to give something new and work hard at it.
MadHatter: What inspired your style of clothing?
Mally: We like tight fitting clothes, like corsets; so all of us are wearing corsets. (smiles)
Jyou: Plus it goes with our theme of our album- freedom and restricted.
MadHatter: We wonder, what influenced you when you were younger to get into the music business?
Jyou: I went to a concert with a friend and when I saw the band perform, it gave me the inspiration to want to perform on stage too.
Miko: As I was growing up, I listened to music more and more. It seemed the more I listened, the more I wanted to make music myself!
Mally: When I was younger I was in a brass band in school and enjoyed performing; that’s what made me want to continue in music.
Omi: Music was the way I used to express myself when I was younger, so I wanted to make music for others to express themselves to.
Naoto: I liked seeing other artists perform and how they influenced their fans, so I wanted to influence others with my music.
MadHatter: What challenges have you faced being an all female group in a male dominate business and genre?
Jyou: It was hard because all they were looking for was men.
Mally: And even thou I was a woman, I didn't want to give up.
Omi: All I remember thinking was that, “I didn’t want to lose to the men.”
Naoto: I didn’t want to give up on my dream; I want to prove a woman can do it too.
Miko: I was told I couldn’t do it, and I wanted to prove them wrong.
MadHatter: Haha! At MadHatter we understand you completely! Are there any foreign bands you like listening too?
Mally: All of us like Evanescence!
MadHatter: We do too! So were there any performances you wanted to see while here at the festival?
Jyou: We wanted to see Anna Tsuchiya and Toshihiko Takamizawa. We got to see them too!
MadHatter: Is there a message you want to send to your fans across the ocean?
Miko: All of us want to travel overseas to see all our fans, so please wait patiently; and for the fans that can travel please come to Japan and see our show… we welcome you!
Mally: We want to see at our shows a mixture of Japanese fans and our foreign fans uniting together as one.
Miko: Again I want to say… please wait and we’ll be waiting to see you too!
